An honourable mention goes to the newly opened Sherbet Cake & Bake Shop on Whatley Crescent in Maylands. While there is no outdoor seating area, a robust garden bench and a water bowl are provided for the likes of me who are then well positioned to peer longingly at their owners inside. I recommend the Carrot & Lemon Cupcake.
Breaking news flash: there are now two small tables outside, making Sherbet an even more perfect destination for you and your human friend. 5 Scooby Snacks out of 5!

There is nothing better than a family gathering at a venue where ALL members are welcome, regardless of species. The Beaufort Street Merchant on Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley has some seating outside (but book ahead like my thoughtful cousin did on this occasion), a water bowl, and yet another throng of Dane loving disciples to keep me amused. 4.5 Schmackos (i’ll save the other half for when the council fixes the uneven pavement) out of 5.

Well thank you, your'e a Big Boy too!

As Tony Harrison would say “This is an Outrage” (you have to be a Mighty Boosh fan to fully appreciate the quote but my sentiments are the same)! After receiving objections from diners about dogs sharing their outside space at the Old Bakery, the City of Bayswater threatened the cafe with further action if the establishment continued to allow non-human clientele. Although I am yet to confirm the exact details with the council, apparently canine companions are permitted unless a complaint is received. The owner assured me that there were no “incidents” leading to the situtation and she deeply regrets having to turn her regular patrons away (to Milkd across the road usually). Watch this space.

A regular haunt for a quick coffee and an alternative to Milkd, especially when the sun is out (us canines are prone to premature ageing as well) is the well-shaded Old Bakery on Eighth Cafe. The garden area at the rear, whilst not equipped with the thoroughfare of admirers present on the main strip, is perfect for a light meal – and a chat to the dogs in the van behind the fence (calm down boys, your’e making me blush). 4 Schmackos out of 5 – for the garden, the coffee and the great home made hamburger.

Although it was late afternoon on a Wednesday, the outdoor seating area was completely full and we waited around 10 minutes for a table to be vacated. This was perfectly acceptable as a steady stream of admirers showered me with pats and my owner with questions, about me of course! Well behaved canine patrons are welcomed and politely asked if they can be included on a list for registration purposes. I assume this is a liability related requirement which is understandable, and to be fair I did get a shiny red tag to wear on my collar.
There are trees close to some of the tables which make a perfect place to secure leads, however, it not a good place to relieve yourself no matter how strong the urge is. “I was just sniffing, honest!” A bowl and water were offered and refilled regularly on request which was fortunate as (as you can tell from the photographs) it was hot. The fries with aioli were outstanding but the pizza crusts were not, even when coated with the aforementioned aioli. Note to humans: we do not want your leftovers unless they are deep fried or bacon.
Little Creatures is on Mews Road in Fremantle and gets 4 Schmackos out of 5.

Can't. Reach. Water.

I'm not looking. Will it hurt?

Your tasteless titbits do not interest me.

The sun was out in full force on Sunday afternoon so we headed to Cranked in Oxford Street Leederville to meet up with friends for a coffee and a light snack. There was an abundance of shade in the alfresco area and several sturdy posts to tether my lead. Although we arrived equipped with a portable water bowl, the staff are more than happy to provide one on request. The coffee met with the approval of the humans as did the Mighty Leaf tea that they serve. There was no mention of free range eggs on the menu so salads were the order of the day, however, soy milk is offered as an alternative in coffees and milkshakes. The staff were attentive and pleasant, and in no way intimidated by my size – 4 Schmackos out of 5.
George feigned indifference at my androgynous beauty, but then he is quite a looker himself:

Spring has sprung. Join me in my quest to dig up canine-friendly cafés in Perth. Our inaugural outing took us to our favourite Milkd in Eighth Ave Maylands. The humans were very happy with their meals and gave kudos to the inclusion of free range eggs on the menu. Five Schmackos out of five!
A sign of a quality establishment. Note the paw print motif:

This is Marley. We sniffed. I am not her type. Typically, she is looking for someone smarter, chunkier and less neutered:
